Meter Reader - Temp
About The Position
New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources, is seeking a Temporary Meter Reader in our Ocean Division to read residential/industrial gas meters utilizing company-provided technology. This position is deemed safety-sensitive under the U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s regulations. Among other things, employees in this position are subject to drug and alcohol testing, including pre-employment testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing and post-accident testing. PHMSA-required drug tests include testing for marijuana. The use of marijuana, or testing positive for marijuana, is disqualifying and will lead to removal from performing safety-sensitive functions as well as disciplinary action.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent
- Must be dependable and punctual
- Demonstrate ability to be accurate in work product
- Communication and teamwork skills
- Demonstrate customer focus skills
- Valid driver’s license, and demonstrated safe driving
- Demonstrated ability to work safely
- Self-starter, ability to work independently and deliver results

- Ability to read maps and field routes, including navigation
- Ability to bend, squat, crawl, and climb
- Ability to lift heavy objects
- Ability to use hands
