About The Position

Install and maintain all types of electric meters energized at any voltage in the shop, stations, switchyards, generating plants, and on customer premises. Install and maintain distribution grid control devices and automated metering and distribution grid network infrastructure. This role progresses through Meter Electrician C, B, and A classifications, with increasing responsibilities and requirements at each level.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in electrical/electronic technology or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience of four years
  • Qualified backgrounds include substation, metering, instrumentation, controls, power systems, or electrical maintenance, with demonstrated hands-on experience in testing, troubleshooting, and working with electrical equipment
  • State Driver License
  • Must possess and maintain a medical certification card, if determined to be required by law
  • Within 24 months of employment (for C), successfully complete the Company's training and qualification program for this position including: classroom instruction; written examination; job mentoring; and job performance demonstrations
  • 24 months as a Meter Electrician C (for B)
  • 24 months as a Meter Electrician B (for A)
  • Successful candidate must live or be willing to relocate within 30 miles of the Coshocton Service Center (405 Brewer Lane Coshocton, Ohio 43812)

Responsibilities

  • Read meters as required for field order and on schedule for cycle billing
  • Install, remove, change disconnect, and reconnect meters
  • Test single phase, network, and polyphase self-contained meter for proper operation and accuracy
  • Program meters
  • Perform Credit and Collections related orders including disconnect and reconnect for non-payment
  • Investigate irregular usage
  • Investigate energy diversion
  • Repair meters, meter sockets, and meter enclosures
  • Order, receive, ship, store, and inventory meter and associated equipment
  • Investigate self-contained service power quality problems, install event recorders, neutral testers, and produce reports
  • Perform work from ladders and elevated platforms
  • Work overtime as needed including extended daily shifts and weekends
  • Work late shifts as needed
  • Work independently under semi-direct or general supervision in a safe, efficient, and productive manner
  • Proficiently use computers and applications related to this position
  • Effectively communicate with other employees, customers, and the general public in a courteous and appropriate manner
  • Promote a positive image of the Company to customers and the general public
  • Comply with all aspects of the AEP Corporate Code of Conduct
  • Report hazards and abnormal conditions
  • Attend and participate in training as assigned and assist in the training of other employees
  • Walk long distances as determined by the Company
  • Lift a 50-pound weight from the floor to a workbench
