About The Position

This role involves the installation, removal, testing, calibration, and repair of electric revenue meters and related equipment. The Meter Electrician Journeyman will also be responsible for preparing load studies, troubleshooting technical problems, instructing apprentices, and maintaining various electrical equipment and records. The position requires working near live electrical equipment, climbing poles, and operating specialized electrical field equipment. Additionally, the role may involve assisting with substation rebuilds and other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
  • Vocational/Specialized Training.
  • Journeyman Certification from a Bonafide Apprenticeship program as Meter Electrician Trade.
  • 5 - 7 years of Experience in Automotive/mechanical work.
  • 5 - 7 years of experience in electrical field.
  • Valid Driver's license (subject to motor vehicle record review).

Nice To Haves

  • 5 - 7 years of experience in electric utility operations preferred.
  • 5 - 7 years of experience in utility teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Assist supervisor in scheduling of maintenance of revenue meters and related equipment.
  • Installs and removes single and poly-phase meters/services and assists in energizing primary meter installations.
  • Prepares load studies and completes load requirements for commercial and industrial customers including sizing of meters and services.
  • Utilizes personal computers to program or re-program electrical-electronic-microprocessor test and control equipment.
  • Tests, calibrates and repairs electric revenue meters.
  • Performs field/shop testing of current and potential transformers.
  • Troubleshoots and corrects technical problems with the use of testing equipment; such as voltmeters, amp meters, ohmmeters, etc.
  • Instructs the apprentices on the proper testing, repairing, calibrating, and troubleshooting techniques on test and control equipment.
  • Reads, interprets, and uses blueprints and schematics for troubleshooting.
  • Assists customer services in meters, high bill and low voltage customers.
  • Prepares reports and records on appropriate forms.
  • Maintains files/records of material installed, retired, and calibrated for metering, and SCADA equipment.
  • Maintains primary test equipment within the specifications set forth by the National Bureau of Standards.
  • Performs work near and around live electrical equipment; (i.e., Electric Substations, Primary Metering equipment, etc.).
  • Installs and maintains distribution line capacitors.
  • Climbs poles to perform required job functions.
  • Performs and operates other electrical field equipment (i.e., Biddle underground cable fault locator or the radar ground resistance tester).
  • Wires up switch cabinets, meter cabinets and RTU cabinets.
  • Assists substation crew in substation rebuild.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
