The Merchandiser independently services Hallmark departments in assigned retail stores, using organization and time-management skills to maintain product displays, inventory, and retailer relationships. The role involves collaborating with store teams and representing Hallmark, with occasional opportunities to work with other companies’ products in serviced stores. The work has three primary components: day-to-day merchandising, seasonal holiday support, and department resets. Daily duties include restocking, organizing, and monitoring Hallmark products, using a Hallmark-provided mobile device for work tasks and communication, and interacting courteously with store employees, management, and customers. Merchandisers are responsible for the entire Hallmark product display at their assigned stores. Work hours vary during the week and average 7–10 hours per week. Additional days and extended hours may be needed around major holidays, including possible work on the holiday itself and weekends. Reset assignments may involve building or installing fixtures, relocating card departments and products, and resetting card sections; assignments are typically announced two weeks in advance and may require evenings or weekends. Merchandisers may also support other team members in their territories. The role is physically demanding and takes place on retail selling floors and in back stockrooms. It requires frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling, as well as standing, walking, kneeling, and squatting; climbing stairs or step ladders may also be required.
