About The Position

The Merchandise Sales Clerk sells merchandise under supervision while providing outstanding guest service. The role supports San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance’s mission and vision of saving species worldwide by uniting wildlife care and conservation science with inspiring passion for nature and leading the fight against extinction. The position reports to Retail Management.

Requirements

• Obtain an RBS Certificate within 30 days; required.
• Obtain a Food Handler’s Card within 30 days; required.
• Knowledge of merchandising methods and register practices.
• Knowledge of the background, history, and operations of merchandising.
• Knowledge of zoo and Safari Park rules and regulations.
• Ability to operate a cash register accurately and efficiently.
• Ability to understand and carry out instructions.
• Ability to understand and communicate effectively with the public.
• Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with others in a diverse environment.
• Ability to proactively maintain appropriate stock levels and provide outstanding guest service.

Responsibilities

• Sell merchandise and proactively suggest additional purchases.
• Rent and maintain strollers, wheelchairs, ECVs, and other equipment.
• Participate in department promotions and upselling systems.
• Operate the point-of-sale system and accurately handle and tender a variety of sales transactions, including cash.
• Maintain stock levels, clean displays, and proactively keep appropriate stock levels.
• Provide outstanding guest service and greet guests.
• Demonstrate understanding of a variety of merchandise types.
• Keep prices clearly posted and updated.
• Order items as necessary and maintain inventory as directed.
