About The Position

The Merchandise Associate is responsible for delivering a highly satisfying customer experience by engaging with customers, applying customer experience principles, and maintaining a clean and organized store. The role follows operational, merchandising, and loss prevention standards and may involve cross-training in multiple store areas to support business needs.

The associate supports a positive store culture through honesty, integrity, and respect; processes customer purchases and returns; promotes credit and loyalty programs; prepares and merchandises products; and helps maintain store recovery, cleanliness, organization, and safety. The associate also supports shrink reduction efforts, follows labor laws and company procedures, and may perform other duties as assigned.

This is a temporary seasonal role at the TJ Maxx store in Commack, New York. The stated starting pay range is $17.00–$17.50 per hour; actual starting pay depends on relevant skills, qualifications, and experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide a highly satisfying customer experience by engaging with customers and following customer experience practices.
• Support a positive store culture through honesty, integrity, and respect.
• Accurately ring customer purchases and returns and provide correct change according to operating procedures.
• Promote credit and loyalty programs.
• Follow the merchandising philosophy and established merchandising procedures and standards.
• Process and prepare merchandise for the sales floor according to company procedures and standards.
• Initiate and participate in store recovery throughout the day as needed.
• Maintain sales-floor organization, cleanliness, and recovery standards and help maintain the entire store.
• Give and accept recognition and constructive feedback.
• Follow applicable labor laws, policies, and procedures.
• Support and participate in store shrink-reduction goals and programs.
• Participate in safety awareness and maintain a safe environment.
• Work in multiple store areas when cross-trained to support business needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
