About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Advising, the Mentor Specialist is responsible for the administration and day-to-day operations of the Northeast State Peer Mentoring Program. The position coordinates and implements all aspects of the College's peer mentoring initiatives, including the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and training of peer mentors; recruitment and intake of mentees; and the development of appropriate mentor-mentee matches. The Mentor Specialist monitors participant engagement, provides ongoing support and guidance to mentors and mentees, maintains program records, and evaluates program effectiveness to ensure the delivery of high-quality services. The position collaborates with faculty, staff, and campus partners to promote the program, support student success initiatives, and advance student retention, persistence, and engagement in alignment with the College's strategic goals.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher in Business, Education, or related field from an accredited institution
  • At least one year of project management experience in a higher education setting
  • Experience working with mentoring, leadership development, or student engagement programs in a higher education setting
  • Technology Skills: MS Office suite; videoconferencing software; digital records management systems; general operating systems and data information systems
  • Ability to work independently and interact positively with others
  • Ability to collect, organize, verify, analyze, interpret, and report data for various internal and external reports.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience in program development and oversight within a higher education or student services environment, including assessment and continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated experience in a college peer mentoring program
  • Event planning experience

Responsibilities

  • Plan and organize recruitment and training events for peer mentoring program
  • Prepare and maintain student databases of student mentors and mentees and maintain a confidential filing and management system
  • Review student profiles and match mentors to mentees
  • Supervise mentors and collect/monitor monthly activity reports
  • Plan and organize structured peer mentoring activities
  • Plan and conduct monthly mentor meetings
  • Counsel and advise students by phone, email, text, and/or face-to-face
  • Support students in their adjustment to campus life
  • Introduce students to campus support services
  • Build relationships with students using academic coaching techniques
  • Provide individualized support by working one-on-one with students
  • Provide a supplemental coaching component and assist students with time management and study skills
  • Support the Student Alert program through coaching and student case management
  • Utilizes creative problem-solving to address student concerns, streamline processes, and enhance the overall student experience.
  • Takes initiative to identify barriers to student success and develops proactive solutions that support retention, persistence, and completion.
  • Collaborates across departments to implement innovative strategies that improve services and operational effectiveness. Collect and analyze strategic planning data; prepare project reports
  • Collect program data and compile activity reports for the College.
  • Prepare and maintain budget, and other financial and statistical records for reporting purposes to include processing requests for payments (student stipends), purchase requisitions, and travel documents.
