Mental Health Technician - PRN

About The Position

Enterhealth seeks a Mental Health Technician (MHT) to support its collaborative care team and patients in accordance with Enterhealth policies and Texas Department of State Health Services Chapter 448 Standard of Care. MHTs help maintain a safe, professional environment conducive to recovery by assisting patients with activities of daily living, monitoring attendance and safety, conducting safety inspections, and following organizational policies and procedures. The role provides continuous supervision, interaction, and role modeling for clients in an addiction treatment setting. MHTs support clinical staff, communicate relevant information to the treatment team, assist clients during periods of stress, and help facilitate a recovery-focused treatment milieu. The position may involve day or night shifts, with assignments to various activities and shifts as needed based on census.

Requirements

High school degree or equivalent, and/or Certified Nursing Assistant qualification, or some college.
0–2 years of chemical dependency or mental health technician experience and/or experience or education in crisis stabilization, chemical dependency, and/or mental illness.
Strong oral and written communication skills are recommended.
Flexibility and a customer-service-oriented approach.
Valid driver's license.
Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job, including light physical demands.

Responsibilities

Promote a safe and secure environment for the delivery of care.
Monitor environmental and campus safety and report concerns to appropriate departments.
Search clients, living quarters, and personal belongings for alcohol, drugs, contraband, or illegal items according to policy; complete required documentation and notify management.
Support clinical staff, maintain client contact, provide support during stressful situations, and de-escalate as needed.
Help facilitate the treatment milieu and motivate clients toward recovery and abstinence; monitor and encourage attendance at scheduled activities.
Communicate pertinent clinical information to the treatment team.
Complete shift duties and responsibilities assigned by the Director of Nursing.
Interact with clients and families in an advocacy and informative role.
Administer lost-and-found items and document and report them as required.
Answer telephones and use the paging system appropriately.
Accept assignments to various activities and shifts as needed based on census.
Participate in codes and respond calmly and effectively to emergencies to protect staff, clients, and others.
Participate in team meetings and Quality Improvement initiatives.
Safely transport clients as assigned.
Assist nursing personnel with collecting lab specimens according to policy.
Monitor client attendance at community group sessions and document and report as required.
Conduct hourly rounds, or rounds every 15 minutes for detox clients, to monitor client whereabouts; document according to policy.
Assist clients with activities of daily living as required.
Monitor client valuables and document who has possession of them.
Accurately document client medical records.
Follow Enterhealth policies and procedures.
Conduct and monitor scheduled client smoke breaks safely and on time.
Assist with client room changes and moves, documenting damages or missing items.
Monitor the control and compliance of room keys assigned to clients and report and document lost or damaged keys.
Keep campus common areas, including kitchens, clean and presentable when housekeeping staff are not on duty.
Maintain a professional demeanor in dress, attitude, and performance in support of the community milieu.

Protect the organization's reputation by maintaining confidentiality and adhering strictly to HIPAA.
