About The Position

Millwood Hospital, a 134-bed mental health facility in Arlington, Texas, provides inpatient and outpatient mental health and chemical dependency treatment. The Mental Health Technician (MHT) helps ensure patient safety and is an active member of the treatment team. The role provides continuous patient care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling for patients ranging from preschool age through geriatrics, depending on the assigned unit. MHTs work under the direction of a Registered Nurse. This position is on the Adult-Gero unit. The regular day shift is listed as 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., though shifts may vary. The employee must be available for full hospital and departmental orientations: Week 1, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Week 2, Monday and Tuesday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Overtime and flexible hours may be requested.

Requirements

High school degree or equivalent is required.
Maintain a valid driver's license in the applicable state.
Complete Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training before unit orientation and before assisting with restraining procedures.
Obtain American Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR certification before taking an independent patient assignment.
May be asked to work overtime and flexible hours.

Nice To Haves

Certified Nursing Assistant certification is preferred.
A degree from an accredited college or university in social work, recreational therapy, or an appropriate therapeutic discipline is preferred.
Two years of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and understanding of mental illness, is preferred.

Responsibilities

Help ensure patient safety.
Provide continuous patient care, supervision, and interaction.
Provide role modeling to patients, with the patient age range depending on the assigned unit.
Function as an active part of the treatment team under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
