About The Position

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) ensures patient safety and functions as an active member of the treatment team. The role provides continuous patient care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling for patients ranging from preschool age through geriatrics, depending on the assigned unit. MHTs work under the direction of a Registered Nurse. This position is assigned to the Adult-Gero Unit at Millwood Hospital in Arlington, Texas. The evening shift is generally 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., although shifts may vary. Attendance at full hospital and departmental orientations is required: Week 1, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Week 2, Monday and Tuesday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Requirements

High school degree or equivalent is required.
Must maintain a valid driver's license in the applicable state.
Successfully complete Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training before on-unit orientation and before assisting with restraining procedures.
Obtain successful CPR certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association before taking an independent patient assignment.
May be asked to work overtime and flexible hours.

Nice To Haves

Certified Nursing Assistant certification.
Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, recreational therapy, or an appropriate therapeutic discipline.
Two years of related experience, knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques, and understanding of mental illness.
