Brentwood Behavioral offers both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services. Brentwood Behavioral Healthcare is seeking a dynamic and talented Mental Health Technicians for EVENING shift (3P-11P). The Mental Health Technician assists in coordinating essential program activities such as activity groups and specialty groups. Works closely with all other clinical staff (Activity Therapists, Social Workers, Nurses) To conduct various process and specialty groups within the patient program. Plays an integral part of assuring that the patient program schedule is carried out as planned by the staff team. Performs various duties assisting staff nurses in the psychiatric and physical treatment and care of patients in accordance with established methods and procedures of the hospital. Interacts closely with patients remaining engaged in the various activities and events that patients experience throughout the treatment day. Interacts with patients in a therapeutic manner at all times and assists other staff to also maintain appropriate boundaries.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mental Health related field and two years of experience in the mental health field (psychiatric/inpatient or outpatient setting).

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates structured group activities appropriate to the assigned topic, patient age, and level of understanding, in accordance with program guidelines and direction from the Program Coordinator.
  • Maintains continuous supervision of patients during group activities, ensuring monitoring occurs in designated locations to promote safety, engagement, and therapeutic effectiveness.
  • Anticipates, recognizes, and responds promptly to escalating behaviors by providing appropriate crisis intervention and utilizing de‑escalation techniques, with safety as the top priority.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members using clear verbal and written communication.
  • Collaborates with clinical and support staff to ensure coordinated care and a supportive therapeutic environment.
  • Demonstrates empathy, respect, and compassion in all patient interactions, maintaining professionalism and a patient‑centered approach.
  • Applies prior mental health or behavioral health experience to support patient needs while adhering to hospital policies, procedures, and safety standards.
