About The Position

The Mental Health Tech (Mental Health Worker I) is a member of the interdisciplinary team who assesses each patient’s functional abilities, impairments, and needs and addresses them individually. The role supports nursing staff and patient care under the direction and guidance of licensed staff and leaders. The position is based at Merit Health Central in Jackson, Mississippi, and is full time on the night shift from 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m., with weeknights and rotating weekends and holidays.

Requirements

0–2 years of experience as a patient care assistant in a mental health hospital setting.
Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
De-escalation Training Certification required.

Responsibilities

Ensure patient-care supplies and equipment are readily available and organized efficiently.
Correctly identify and use personal protective equipment.
Respond promptly to patient and family requests.
Monitor and accurately record patient information, test results, and statistics.
Provide assigned patients with activities of daily living, non-medication pain management, and other interventions.
Follow patient-care policies, practices, and protocols, including sterile technique and skin-care protocols.
Assist patients with personal hygiene and elimination needs.
Provide clean linen and towels at the beginning of the shift and change them as needed.
Answer the call system promptly and intervene appropriately.
Clean equipment as directed.
Ensure continuity of professional care and participate in program development and process improvement.
Follow proper procedures during verbal and physical de-escalation of patients.
Perform crisis intervention individually and restrain violent patients.
Respond to all Code White alerts.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Comply with all policies and standards.
