About The Position

The Membership Services Associate position is responsible for supporting and implementing educational, cultural, athletic, and special event recreation and program activities. This role requires employees to work under the guidance of the Recreation Services Lead, Recreation Services Specialist, and Recreation Coordinator. They must possess knowledge of recreation programs and activities and demonstrate effective communication and organizational skills. The position involves providing exceptional customer service, managing membership-related tasks, and supporting Service Desk operations. Employees may be asked to undertake job-related tasks other than those explicitly listed.

Requirements

Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age or older.
Position requires working flexible hours and availability for weekend, evening and holiday work.
Knowledge of recreation programs and activities.
Knowledge of opening and closing policies and procedures.
Knowledge of cash-handling policies and procedures.
Knowledge of recreational activities.
Knowledge of writing Accident and Incident reports.
Knowledge of development, implementation, and evaluation of various recreation programs.
Knowledge of customer service techniques both in person and on the telephone.
Skill in performing simple mathematical calculations and perform multiple duties simultaneously.
Skill in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Skill in providing extraordinary customer service.
Skill in critical incident report writing.
Ability to perform duties while being tactful and courteous with children and adults.
Ability to develop positive relationships with customers.
Ability to communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc., to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Ability to work flexible hours and have availability for Saturdays, Sundays, evenings, and holidays.
Ability to lead staff and customers when the emergency plan is activated.
Ability to provide membership tours and make sales.
Ability to stand for a long period of time.

Nice To Haves

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification and First Aid certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
Previous customer service experience
Previous cash handling experience
Previous Public Sector or Recreation experience.
Bilingual skills a plus.
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job, may be substituted for Preferred Qualifications at the discretion of the hiring authority.

Responsibilities

Assists with daily facility operations, including greeting members and guests and completing check-in procedures and membership package transactions.
Maintain a professional, positive and helpful manner.
Provide membership tours; recommend appropriate membership options based on guest needs; and accurately process memberships and payments.
Help ensure a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment where children, families, and individuals of all ages feel comfortable.
Assist Instructors with administrative duties, classes, and participants.
Organize and maintain the fitness area, including machines, equipment, and floors to ensure safety and cleanliness standards are met.
Guide and counsel facility patrons and program participants on park, facility, and program rules, equipment care, and acceptable conduct in a helpful and positive manner.
Assist with opening and closing recreational facilities and parks within the City of Maricopa, following the correct procedures.
May act as Manager on Duty during the opening and closing of recreation facilities, and parks within the City of Maricopa.
Work at the Service Desk, including answering phones, taking registrations, booking facility rentals and processing payments without assistance, seeking help from other Recreation Aides, Recreation Services Lead, Recreation Services Specialist, or Recreation Coordinator when needed.
Issue credits and refunds if necessary, exercising the ability to do so.
Ability to activate and execute the Emergency Action Plan.
Monitor the proper and safe use of program facilities by the general public.
Respond to complaints, inquiries, and information requests.
Complete and report accident or injury forms occurring in the assigned area.
Assist with daily housekeeping duties.
May be rotated or transferred to other facilities and/or assignments based on department or seasonal needs.
Employees may occasionally be required to perform related duties while temporarily filling in for other Recreation positions.
Other duties as assigned.
