About The Position

The Medication Technician performs routine duties in caring for residents and assists residents with medications under the direction and supervision of the nurse manager. The role provides medication and treatment services within regulatory guidelines and the technician’s scope of practice. Duties also include documenting medication administration, supporting resident care and unit operations, assisting with caregiver orientation, and participating in quality assurance activities.

Requirements

High school education, GED, or equivalent is required.
First Aid certification is required within 30 days of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor per Adventist Health policy is required within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

Associate’s or technical degree, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Two years of experience in an assisted living or skilled nursing facility.
CPR certification from an approved vendor per Adventist Health policy.

Responsibilities

Assist residents with medications within regulatory requirements and under the supervision of the nurse manager.
Act as a departmental resource and help resolve unit problems with the nurse manager.
Verify resident identity and record medication, dosage, and administration time in medical records.
Collect non-invasive body fluid specimens and observe residents for responses to medication.
Mentor new caregivers by providing orientation, assisting with training, and making recommendations to nursing administration and the nurse manager.
Participate in Quality Assurance Programs.
Assist with scheduling daily assignment sheets and ensure assigned charting and daily resident-care responsibilities are completed.
Assist with medication inventory or stockroom maintenance as needed.
Help strip and make residents’ beds, handle resident laundry, serve meals, and bus tables during mealtimes.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
