Under the general direction of the Pharmacy Manager, the retail pharmacy intern is responsible for performing tasks involved in the preparation and distribution of medications checked by a licensed Pharmacist while under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This role requires a high level of detail orientation and organization, the ability to maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy, and effective communication skills with pharmacy staff. The intern must maintain professionalism, report safety issues and errors promptly, and assist the pharmacist with operational tasks. Specific responsibilities include reviewing medication/IV orders for interactions and appropriateness, providing clinical interventions, preparing intravenous admixtures using aseptic technique, receiving and inputting new discharge patient medication orders, completing prescriptions from start to finish, preparing adherence packaged discharge patient medications, answering clinical questions regarding medication use, and preparing and labeling medications for pharmacist verification. The intern will also weigh, measure, and mix drugs, and store biologicals and vaccines properly.
