About The Position

Boston Medical Center (BMC) is a large and busy healthcare provider in New England, offering comprehensive medical services and emphasizing community-based care. As the largest safety-net hospital in the region, BMC is dedicated to providing excellent and accessible healthcare to all. It is also a primary teaching affiliate of Boston University School of Medicine and a founding partner of Boston HealthNet. BMC offers a specialty pharmacy service to manage the complex medication needs of its chronic patients. This service includes an on-site pharmacy with a dedicated care team comprising Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, and Pharmacy Liaisons. The approach focuses on deep integration with clinical teams and personalized service to achieve better outcomes at a lower cost. BMC is looking for a motivated individual to join their specialty pharmacy management services team.

Requirements

  • Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the Board of Pharmacy in Massachusetts.
  • Pharmacy technician national certification by PTCB or ExCPT is required.
  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong phone skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to provide superb personalized customer service and advocate for patients.
  • Ability to explain required information to customers in a comprehensible manner.
  • Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of social, racial, and ethnic populations.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Ability to quickly learn other applications (such as SDK, SCM, Logician, NEHEN Trizetto, EWS, EPIC, etc.) and extract relevant information.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and pay attention to details.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios/proportions).
  • Ability to be self-directed, multi-task, prioritize essential duties, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to actively promote the hospital’s objectives through direct coordination and commitment to the program’s goals.
  • Organized, high-integrity, attention to detail, dependable, quality focus, and empathetic.
  • Good listener/communicator.
  • Must practice discretion and confidentiality.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changes in departmental needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) with extensive experience in all facets of pharmacy is preferred.
  • Bilingual or multi-lingual skills (beyond that of English) appropriate to the patient population served is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive service programs for patients requiring specialty drugs.
  • Work as part of an on-site pharmacy care team including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, and Pharmacy Liaisons.
  • Integrate with the clinical team to provide highly personalized service.
  • Drive better patient outcomes at a lower cost.
  • Manage complex medication needs of chronic patients.
  • Offer assistance to other team members and adjust assignments as needed.
  • Practice discretion and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive patient data.
