About The Position

This role supports plasma center operations by determining donor eligibility, managing adverse events, reviewing lab results, and notifying donors of unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Specialist works under the guidance of the Center Manager for operations and the Center Physician for medical issues. Familiarity with plasma collection industry regulations or a manufacturing environment is expected. The role also supports environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives as guided by BioLife Medical Affairs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
  • Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA).
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy.
  • Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history review, physical examination, blood testing, and SPE review.
  • Evaluate and manage donor reactions according to SOPs.
  • Follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including physician's standing orders and transport to emergency facilities.
  • Refer to Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings, medical/technical issues, and donor safety/eligibility concerns.
  • Support employee Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine the need for further evaluation by occupational health/ER.
  • Refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations associated with pandemic threats.
