About The Position

The Medical Support Assistant (MSA) will be responsible for supporting the Sheridan VA Medical Center by managing community care scheduling and consult management. This is a full-time, 1-year contract position with the possibility of extension, requiring the candidate to reside within 50 miles of a listed facility and work remotely. The role involves handling patient appointments, processing consults, coordinating care, updating patient records, and ensuring compliance with various regulations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum 6 months of customer service experience
  • Typing speed of 50+ WPM
  • Basic medical terminology and computer skills
  • Strong written and verbal English proficiency
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, track, and follow up on patient appointments
  • Process community care consults and coordinate care with outside providers
  • Update patient demographics, insurance, and medical records in VA systems
  • Handle calls, voicemails, faxes, mail, and patient inquiries
  • Maintain clinic schedules, no-shows, and access reports
  • Support providers and care teams with scheduling and administrative needs
  • Resolve patient concerns and scheduling issues
  • Maintain HIPAA, privacy, IT security, and regulatory compliance
  • Meet productivity and quality standards
  • Work independently and resolve scheduling or administrative issues
