About The Position

The Medical Staff Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and processing requests for applications, evaluating eligibility, and initiating the information collection, verification, and documentation process. This role involves entering and posting requested privileges in a database, providing statistical information on the credentialing process, and managing an online portal database and credentials files. The coordinator also monitors the reappointment process, prepares agendas for committee meetings, records minutes, and serves as a resource for hospital staff, physicians, APPs, and AHPs regarding Medical Staff activities. Additional duties may include developing credentialing criteria for new privileges, processing requests for additional privileges, responding to information requests, and special projects.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent required
  • 2 years medical staff or hospital credentialing experience required

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree Preferred
  • ER call scheduling experience preferred
  • MD Staff credentialing software experience highly preferred
  • Medical Staff Coordinator certification preferred upon hire; candidates must obtain certification within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and process requests for applications and evaluate eligibility for application receipt according to bylaws.
  • Initiate the information collection, verification, and documentation process upon receipt of a complete application.
  • Enter or post requested privileges in the database and provide statistical information on the credentialing process.
  • Manage and maintain accurate and up-to-date online portal database and credentials files for all appointees as assigned.
  • Provide follow-up support to all practitioners as needed.
  • Monitor the reappointment process from initiation to completion according to established policies and procedures.
  • Ensure timely completion of reappointment application process and renewing of privileges.
  • Prepare agendas for committee meetings in collaboration with the meeting Chair and other involved staff members.
  • Make other preparations for the meeting including reserving a room and sending notifications.
  • Attend meetings, record accurate minutes, and follow up as appropriate.
  • Facilitate election of new Department officers and review and recommend privilege revisions as needed.
  • Serve as a resource for hospital staff, physicians APPs, AHPs and their office staff in relation to Medical Staff activities.
  • Perform additional duties that are temporary in nature due to business needs including development of credentialing criteria for new privileges, processing requests for additional privileges, responding to both internal and external customers requiring reports or information, and special projects.
