About The Position

The Medical Scribe assists physicians by documenting the medical chart for each patient seen in the practice. The physician introduces the scribe to the patient as present to document the physician’s dictation of the care provided. The role also provides front office coverage as needed and supports patient- and family-centered care.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Comprehensive medical terminology experience.
• Experience working in a health care setting.

Responsibilities

• Accompany the physician into patient exam rooms and transcribe the patient history, physical exam, and procedures as stated by the physician during the interview and exam.
• Sign and date medical record entries appropriately to identify the role as Medical Scribe.
• Track the status and results of laboratory, x-ray, and other evaluations completed for patients.
• Communicate with physicians and mid-level providers in the practice in a timely and efficient manner while exhibiting Beaumont Health Standards.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the physical, intellectual, psychosocial, and developmental tasks, fears, and stressors relevant to each age group served; provide a safe environment and recognize age-specific safety risks.
• Demonstrate Beaumont Health Standards in all aspects of job performance.
• Behave courteously, give clear directions, maintain standards of personal appearance, introduce oneself properly to patients, and treat patients with dignity and respect.
• Perform front office duties to provide coverage as needed.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and support patient- and family-centered care.
