Oak Street Health Medical Scribes support primary care providers by managing clinical documentation so providers can focus on patient care. Also known internally as Clinic Informatics Specialists (CISs), Scribes observe and document patient encounters in real time, help providers identify and close care gaps, and support accurate, specific, and timely documentation. The role includes learning Oak Street Health’s value-based care model, chronic-condition documentation, ICD-10 and CPT coding, clinical workflows, preventative care, population-health data streams, and team-based care. Extensive on-the-job training is provided. Candidates should be prepared to commit at least one year to the role; two or more years is ideal. The position offers practical, paid clinical experience and may suit people pursuing medical or other healthcare-related careers. Scribes work alongside a paired provider throughout the patient-care journey: preparing for the day’s visits during morning huddles, joining the provider in the exam room, and helping with follow-up steps after visits. This is an in-person, full-time clinic position, generally requiring approximately 40–45 hours per week during clinic hours, with predictable hours and breaks.
