About The Position

Responsible for greeting donors at the plasma collection center and conducting a series of registration procedures to qualify donors for the plasma pheresis process. This role involves assisting qualified donors in completing the screening process, which includes assessing health history, answering medical questions, referring donors to medical staff, and performing health screening procedures like blood pressure, pulse, weight, and temperature checks. The technician also performs finger sticks to obtain samples for hematocrit and total protein levels. Additionally, they educate new donors about the use of therapeutic products, explain the screening process, and ensure all donor questions are answered accurately and professionally. The role may also involve registering donors, answering telephones, monitoring donors for reactions, performing equipment calibration and troubleshooting, and maintaining a clean work environment. Accurate recording of donor data and adherence to safety and confidentiality policies are crucial.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 18 months experience in a clerical or customer service related position, preferably in a medical or health provider environment or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must be able to perform basic math calculations
  • Ability to understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions
  • Understands, remembers and communicates routine, factual information
  • Must be able to see and speak with customers and observe equipment operation.
  • Reach, bend, kneel and have high level of manual dexterity
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment while performing specific tasks or in certain areas

Responsibilities

  • Assists qualified donors in completing the screening process in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Performs health screening procedures such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, and temperature.
  • Performs finger stick to obtain sample to obtain donor’s hematocrit and total protein levels.
  • Educates new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma.
  • Explains the screening process, health screening tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, and nutrition.
  • Ensures all donor questions are answered timely, accurately, and professionally.
  • May be involved in registering applicant and transfer donors.
  • May answer the telephone and assist in providing appropriate information to the caller.
  • Maintains alertness and awareness to any reaction by donor and notifies appropriate staff.
  • Conducts daily calibration of equipment and resolves calibration out-of-specification issues.
  • Troubleshoots equipment failures, creates incident documentation, and removes/replaces equipment from service.
  • May provide guidance and technical training about processes and procedures to other staff.
  • Alerts Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues.
  • Ensures the accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system.
  • Understands policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs.
  • Maintains clean efficient work environment and ensures sufficient operating supplies and forms are available.
  • Follows all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures.
  • Promotes safety in all actions.
  • May conduct routine audits of internal procedures and documentation.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all personnel, donor and center information.
  • May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
