Medical Records Technician - SCI Fayette
About The Position
As a Medical Records Technician for the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Fayette, you will help keep important health information organized and accessible. Requirements
- Possession of a valid Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certificate or a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certificate issued by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), or eligibility for certification including completion of an AHIMA approved RHIT or RHIA Health Information Management education program.
- If eligible for certification, must obtain RHIT or RHIA certification within 12 months of employment.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
- Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Organize and monitor integrated health records to meet documentation standards and policy requirements
- File, issue, and transfer records while following confidentiality rules and legal guidelines
- Check records for accuracy and completeness and refer issues to appropriate health staff
- Prepare statistical reports related to morbidity, mortality, and service usage
- Prepare medical records for court cases and notify staff about inmate transfers or discharge
