About The Position

The Medical Records Supervisor with the Department of Corrections plays an important role in supporting quality health care. This position offers a chance to guide staff and improve recordkeeping systems. The work helps ensure that inmates receive accurate and timely medical documentation. This role oversees the coordination and maintenance of inmate medical records while guiding staff and ensuring compliance with various standards.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certificate or a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certificate issued by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), or eligibility for certification including completion of an AHIMA approved RHIT or RHIA Health Information Management education program.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Employees who meet the Necessary Special Requirement based on the eligibility option for the RHIT or RHIA certification must obtain one of these certifications within 12 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Direct subordinate staff by assigning tasks, reviewing work, and providing training
  • Organize and maintain inmate health records in accordance with policy and documentation standards
  • File, issue, and prepare medical records for transfers, parole, and legal proceedings
  • Examine medical records for completeness and refer incomplete documentation for correction
  • Compile reports on subjects such as morbidity, mortality, and service usage
  • Evaluate recordkeeping methods and support quality assurance efforts
