Requirements

  • One year of clerical experience maintaining or reviewing medical records, transcribing dictated or recorded medical information, or conducting medical abstracting and coding; or Graduation from an accredited medical secretarial, medical records, medical transcription, medical assisting, medical coding, or health information management program; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act. Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare charts, required documents, identification materials, and Veterans Affairs benefit forms while updating information as needed
  • Transcribe physician reports, histories, physical examinations, and discharge summaries and scan completed documents
  • Assemble and examine discharged or deceased resident charts, identify missing documentation, and communicate needed corrections
  • Complete routine record duties such as typing, filing, copying, and maintaining supplies
  • Input daily activity reports from nursing units into the system to generate the facility census
  • Review and process record requests in line with regulations, obtain appropriate consent, and request outside information when needed
