Medical Records Assistant - SCI Camp Hill
About The Position
As a Medical Records Assistant with the Department of Corrections (DOC), you help manage vital inmate health records and ensure they are accurate, complete, and protected in a secure correctional setting. This position lets you work in a fast-paced environment where strong organization and attention to detail make a real impact. You support important health care processes, keep records moving efficiently, and help maintain smooth office operations at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Camp Hill. Requirements
- One year of clerical experience maintaining or reviewing medical records, transcribing dictated or recorded medical information, or conducting medical abstracting and coding; or Graduation from an accredited medical secretarial, medical records, medical transcription, medical assisting, medical coding, or health information management program; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- Must meet the PA residency requirement.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain electronic, paper, and film medical records while reviewing entries for completeness and accuracy
- Upload, merge, extract, and update information in the Electronic Health Record system
- File, withdraw, issue, deliver, and retrieve records in accordance with confidentiality rules and legal requirements
- Prepare records for inmate transfers or parole and notify health care staff about inmate discharge status
- Archive hardcopy and electronic files, ensure timely submission of paper files to the State Records Center, and file inactive records appropriately
- Update tracking logs, prepare statistical reports, verify coding, and support management reviews
