Firelands Health is seeking a Medical Receptionist for its FPG Norwalk Family practice. This full-time day position offers the opportunity to work in Sandusky, a vibrant coastal town on Lake Erie. Requirements

  • High school graduate; vocational education preferred.
  • Experience in a medical ambulatory setting.
  • Current CPR certification or obtained within 3 months of employment and maintained.
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers with strong typing skills.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word is desired.
  • Ability to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States.
  • Annual tuberculin testing (initial testing upon hire includes a 2-step tuberculin test, symptom survey, or chest x-ray).
  • Option to elect Hepatitis vaccine or sign a waiver.
  • Possession of a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license and insurable under Firelands auto policy.
  • Proof of personal automobile liability insurance coverage upon request.
  • Successful completion of a 90-day get-acquainted period.

Responsibilities

  • Greeting patients, vendors, and visitors, and notifying appropriate staff of their arrival.
  • Operating the telephone console to route incoming calls and place outgoing calls.
  • Scheduling patient appointments.
  • Obtaining and verifying current insurance information for each visit.
  • Obtaining pre-certifications or prior authorizations as needed.
  • Maintaining accurate daily records for timely billing of accounts.
  • Notifying patients of account status and payments due, using collection techniques to keep accounts receivable current.
  • Assisting in covering other practice sites as needed.
  • Verifying patient's current insurance coverage through insurance websites.
  • Collecting and posting co-pays and past due balances, and completing necessary forms.
  • Managing referrals through EMR.
  • Following incentive guidelines to help the practice meet program goals.
  • Performing daily banking and preparing a daily financial spreadsheet.
  • Ensuring timely, accurate, and complete information submission to the Central Billing Office.
  • Using collection management reports to keep accounts receivable current.
  • Identifying and reporting potential Red Flag Identity theft patterns.
  • Requesting, locating, sending, and receiving patient medical records.
  • Maintaining medical appointments for patients.
  • Answering phones pleasantly and screening calls.
  • Maintaining a clean and orderly waiting area.
  • Organizing and maintaining an inventory system for supplies.
  • Practicing all facets of Health & Safety.
  • Demonstrating competence in communication, professionalism, organizational and analytical skills, and technical/professional skills.
