About The Position

Upper Room AIDS Ministry (URAM) is a Federally Qualified Health Center located in the heart of Harlem. We provide Primary Care, Specialty Care, Dental Care and Wellness Care to those seeking diagnosis and treatment. All employees of URAM are responsible for performing their job practicing good risk management, quality assurance, and delivering excellent internal and external customer service. The Medical Assistant performs routine clinical and clerical work. The Medical Assistant anticipates provider and patient needs, follows prescribed procedures and maintains established standards in accordance to Upper Room AIDS Ministry’s Policies and Procedures.

  • Spanish/French Bilingual preferred.
  • Experience with behavioral health populations

Responsibilities

  • Must possess the necessary communication and interpersonal skills in order to interact effectively with patients and staff and work as part of a team. Must demonstrate a high standard of customer service.
  • Must obtain patients’ vitals and record patients' vital statistics in Health records system (eClinical Works)
  • Provide assistance with the completion of Health Screenings as required per OMH, including obtaining information from non-Harlem United Providers
  • Update medication lists for patients to accurately reflect medications that patients may no longer be taking
  • Receive and address Telephone encounters regarding refill requests; able to communicate in a timely manner with Psychiatric provider to address requested needs.
  • Manage psychiatric crises such as suicidal statements, or homicidal statements by alerting Wellness Director
  • Apply de-escalation strategies to support patients in crisis
  • Assist with outreach calls to remind patients of appointments as needed
  • Attends Mandatory weekly team meetings and other trainings as needed
  • Meets with Supervisor according to URAM requirement
  • Participates in Quality Assurance activities
  • Special projects as assigned by supervisors
  • Other tasks within scope as needed such as Phlebotomy or EKG
