About The Position

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist at IDEXX, you will perform laboratory testing that aids veterinarians in diagnosing and treating pets. You will be a key contributor at one of the largest veterinary diagnostic companies globally, working in a fast-paced environment that values teamwork, quality, and offers opportunities for personal growth. The role involves using automated analyzers, microscopes, and other diagnostic tools to analyze and test samples, supporting veterinarian animal treatment. You will process thousands of blood, urine, fecal, or pet biopsy samples daily, setting up and running tests, and releasing results according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Specialization may occur in areas such as Patient Sample Management, Parasitology, Immunology/Serology, Cytology, Urinalysis, Chemistry/Endocrinology, or Hematology.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years' experience working in a high volume Clinical Laboratory working on patient samples (in one of more of the departments listed).
  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests.
  • Experience operating laboratory equipment (microscopes, pipetting and / or clinical diagnostic analyzers).
  • Positive attitude and energy to support colleagues.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Concentrate on details and work reliably and precisely.
  • Great sense of team spirit and responsibility.
  • Able to meet the physical requirements: standing and sitting for extended periods of time, phone & computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50lb, and specific vision ability (close, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus).
  • Potential exposure to biohazards, agents known to cause zoonotic diseases, and hazardous chemicals.

Nice To Haves

  • A 2-, 3- or 4-year degree in a Science-related field is preferred.
  • Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, CVT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT or MT) experience and education would be a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Use automated analyzers, microscopes, and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that diagnose animal illnesses, injuries, and diseases.
  • Perform diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal, or pet biopsy samples.
  • Set up and run lab tests, then read and release results according to SOPs.
  • Receive, prepare, and accession veterinary samples for laboratory analysis and testing.
  • Examine samples to identify parasites using fecal flotation and microscopic techniques.
  • Test blood and other samples for the presence of viral and bacterial disease by detecting antibodies (AB) or antigens (AG).
  • Process blood and body fluids for microscopic examination by pathologists, including slide preparation and staining.
  • Analyze and evaluate chemical and microscopic components of urine samples using automated instrumentation and manual techniques.
  • Test blood and body fluids for various analytes utilizing automated instrumentation.
  • Test cell-related components of blood samples, including microscopic evaluation of blood smears and the use of automated and manual counting techniques.
