Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of experience working in a high-volume Clinical Laboratory handling patient samples in one or more of the specified departments.
  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests.
  • Experience operating laboratory equipment such as microscopes, pipetting devices, and/or clinical diagnostic analyzers.
  • Positive attitude and energy to support colleagues.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Attention to detail, ability to work reliably and precisely.
  • Strong sense of team spirit and responsibility.
  • Able to meet physical requirements: standing and sitting for extended periods, phone & computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50lb, and specific vision ability (close, color, depth perception, ability to adjust focus).
  • Awareness of potential exposure to biohazards, agents known to cause zoonotic diseases, and hazardous chemicals.

Nice To Haves

  • A 2-, 3-, or 4-year degree in a Science-related field is preferred.
  • Experience as a Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, CVT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT or MT) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Use automated analyzers, microscopes, and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that diagnose animal illnesses, injuries, and diseases to support veterinarian animal treatment.
  • Perform diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal, or pet biopsy samples received daily.
  • Set up and run lab tests, then read and release results according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Specialize in one or more areas: Patient Sample Management (receiving, preparing, and accessioning samples), Parasitology (identifying parasites using microscopic techniques), Immunology/Serology (testing for viral and bacterial diseases by detecting antibodies or antigens), Cytology (processing samples for microscopic examination, including slide preparation and staining), Urinalysis (analyzing chemical and microscopic components of urine), Chemistry/Endocrinology (testing blood and body fluids for analytes), and Hematology (testing blood components, including microscopic evaluation of blood smears).
