About The Position

The Staff Medical Technologist performs clinical tests in one or more areas of specialization, depending on the size and scope of laboratory activity. The position performs testing and evaluates results used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease, maintains laboratory records, supports quality control, and helps train students and new employees. The role may cover all laboratory departments and may assume senior technologist or chief duties as required.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or in a biological, chemical, or physical science related to Medical Technology.
Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT/MLS) by a nationally recognized certifying agency.
Knowledge of laboratory procedures, instrumentation, quality control practices, and laboratory safety standards.
Ability to perform complex laboratory testing accurately and precisely.
Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, patients, and other healthcare team members.

Responsibilities

Perform tests in all laboratory departments to obtain data used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Perform technician duties and, as required, assume duties of Senior Medical Technologists and/or the Chief.
Evaluate results of various procedures.
Troubleshoot equipment after advising the supervisor of the problem.
Participate in the department's quality control program.
Maintain appropriate records and perform associated clerical duties.
Assist in training students and/or new employees.
In the absence of the immediate supervisor, notify physicians of abnormal test results.
Participate in the employee evaluation process.
Participate in total laboratory coverage on a shift basis and/or on call.
Perform other duties as assigned.
