About The Position

LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our Immunohematology Reference Laboratory (IRL) in Gainesville, FL. This role involves resolving complex immunohematology and compatibility problems to ensure the safest donor blood for patients. The position emphasizes providing excellent customer service and offers flexible scheduling options, such as four 10-hour shifts or five 8-hour shifts per week. There are no on-call requirements.

Requirements

• National certification as MT/CLS/MLS with ASCP, AAB or AMT, including immunohematology
• Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory, Chemical, or Biological Science
• Familiarity with blood banking
• Clinical laboratory training program or three years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience with a minimum of six months in the transfusion service or Immunohematology Reference Lab

• SBB(ASCP) or BB(ASCP) preferred

Responsibilities

• Follow established policies and procedures
• Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problems or immediately notify a supervisor, manager, or director
• Document all corrective action taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications
• Exercise professional judgment in evaluation, specimen integrity, results accuracy, and inter-result validity, and take corrective action as necessary
