About The Position

The Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) performs routine testing on blood, tissues, and other body specimens, providing physicians with quality results using clinical laboratory equipment. The role requires a thorough understanding of patient safety and laboratory techniques to protect patient safety and anonymity. The position is with the Core Lab at Mary Immaculate Hospital and is scheduled for 20 hours per week on the evening shift.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Biochemistry through a CLIA-approved program.
• MLS Medical Lab Scientist certification or eligibility for certification by a nationally recognized certification agency; ASCP is preferred.
• Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to engage professionally with staff and patients.

Nice To Haves

• Completed externship program.
• Certification through ASCP is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform analytical tests on biological specimens accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner, following documented laboratory procedures.
• Determine specimen acceptability through visual inspection or recognition of abnormal or unusual results.
• Recognize factors that affect measurements and results and take appropriate action according to protocols.
• Perform quality control for testing and meet established ranges before releasing patient results.
• Maintain a safe and efficient work environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning the work area, monitoring temperatures according to hospital policies, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
