About The Position

The Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) at Mary Immaculate Hospital performs routine testing on blood, tissues, and other body specimens, providing physicians with quality results using clinical laboratory equipment. The role requires thorough understanding of patient safety and laboratory techniques to protect patient safety and anonymity. The position is scheduled for 40 hours per week on the evening shift. A sign-on bonus of up to $10,000 is available. The salary range is $30.99 to $48.04 per hour.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Biochemistry through a CLIA-approved program.
• MLS Medical Lab Scientist certification, or eligibility for certification by a nationally recognized certification agency; ASCP is preferred.
• Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to engage with staff and patients in a professional manner.

Nice To Haves

• Completed externship program.
• ASCP certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform analytical tests on biological specimens in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner in compliance with documented laboratory procedures.
• Determine specimen acceptability through visual inspection or recognition of abnormal or unusual results.
• Recognize factors that affect measurements and results and take appropriate action according to protocols.
• Perform quality control for all testing and meet established ranges before releasing patient results.
• Maintain a safe and efficient work environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning the work area, monitoring temperatures in accordance with hospital policies, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
