About The Position

START is an evidence-based, community crisis prevention and intervention service model for individuals aged 6 and older with intellectual and developmental disabilities and mental health needs. The START Medical Director will provide medical oversight on client cases as needed. This position will be formally employed by Community Family Advocates, reporting directly to Allegheny County Department of Human Services and carrying out day-to-day responsibilities under their direction, supervision, and operational guidelines. While Community Family Advocates will serve as the official employer for administrative and human resources purposes, the role will function as an integrated part of Allegheny County’s team.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience treating people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Autism and behavioral health needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills when presenting to senior management, stakeholders and system partners.
  • Knowledge of various computer systems (MS Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.) as needed.
  • M.D./D.O. or APRN with specialty in psychiatry, licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Successful completion of all required background checks.
  • Act 33 and 34 clearances.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consultation and training to all members of the team (clinical team and therapeutic supports).
  • Collaboration with primary treating physicians of persons served by START and provide recommendations.
  • Consultation to psychiatric hospitals regarding treatment of people with ID/A and behavioral health need and provide recommendations.
  • Participate in recurring team meetings as necessary and provide recommendations.
  • Review health needs, complete indicated assessments, provide recommendations and follow-up to START enrollees as part of the collaborative team.
  • Participate in monthly CETs, including support for the clinical director with training, multidisciplinary assessment, recommendations and treatment planning.
  • Assist with the collection of MEDS assessment data, analyze the data with the assistance of START team members.
  • Participate in regular START network learning opportunities including quarterly Medication Director Practice Group sessions.
  • From time to time the employee will be required to perform additional tasks and duties as required by the employer.
