About The Position

The Outpatient Medical Director directs the staff and programs of the organization's clinical programs. Works closely with hospital staff, department directors, and physicians to ensure that the highest standards of quality and service are maintained. Oversees the implementation of quality improvement efforts designed to improve clinical performance and in compliance with corporate guidelines, state and local regulations, the American Osteopathic Association and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals. Evaluates developments in medical care and makes recommendations for new practices and procedures. Advises CEO and medical teams on matters affecting patient care. Requires an advanced degree of medicine. Manages a departmental function within a broader corporate function. The Outpatient Medical Director works autonomously, but in collaboration with physicians to deliver primary medical and psychiatric care. The Outpatient Medical Director provides services by developing treatment plans for patients on inpatient units. Serves as clinical liaison with other health care facilities particularly those serving the geriatric population. Works closely with behavioral team to coordinate medical and psychiatric treatment. Approach all patients and referral sources with a customer service attitude.

Requirements

  • Board certified MD specializing in Psychiatry
  • 4 – 5 years’ patient treatment experience with children, adolescents and adults.
  • Georgia License as a Psychiatrist as issued by the Georgia Department of Health.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in order to combine assessments, treatment planning and intervention into a meaningful document.
  • Able to communicate with members of the interdisciplinary treatment team, managed care representatives, children, adolescents, adults and residents’ families in a clean and concise manner.
  • Knowledge of individual, group and family therapy dynamics and techniques as related to cultural, social, economic, communication and role expectations within the family system.
  • Good clinical skills to assess treatment dynamics accurately and develop effective treatment strategies within the context of the overall treatment plan.
  • Ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of child and adolescent needs, knowledge of growth and development stages and possess an understanding of the range of treatment needed by this age group.
  • Leadership abilities.

  • The work demands long hours of sitting with some bending and lifting of supplies, paper, medical records, etc.
  • Some physical confrontation and/or restraint may be necessary when dealing with residents.
