About The Position

The Medical Director of Kidney Transplantation is responsible for the overall clinical, operational, and strategic leadership of the kidney and kidney-pancreas transplant service at BayCare. Leads the implementation of the program’s mission and strategic plan to advance clinical quality, operational performance, and long‑term program sustainability within transplant nephrology services in close collaboration with BayCare and Northwestern Medicine (NM) leadership. Ensures the delivery of consistently high‑quality, patient‑centered care that meets or exceeds clinical, regulatory, and service expectations. Provides coordination and oversight of multidisciplinary resources across the transplant service line, supporting productivity, financial stewardship, and operational efficiency while contributing to strategic planning for continued growth and success of the kidney transplant program. Plays a central role in waitlist management, donor–recipient matching, and weekly transplant listing conferences while working closely with BayCare and Northwestern Medicine kidney transplant teams. Partners with transplant coordinators and clinical teams to align donor acceptance and candidate selection with established BayCare and Northwestern Medicine algorithms, including the evaluation of higher‑risk donors. Will work with transplant coordinators, take primary call for organ offers and share responsibility with the on-call transplant surgeon for appropriate organ recipient matching. Supports the expansion of best‑practice strategies to preserve donor kidney viability during recovery and transport, drives year‑over-year growth in transplant volume, and ensures clinical and research protocols are robust, compliant, and well maintained. Provides comprehensive, high-quality clinical care for kidney transplant candidates and recipients across the continuum of transplantation, including evaluation, waitlist management, peri transplant care, and post-transplant follow up. Functions within a community-based academic healthcare system’s transplant program with a strong emphasis on collaboration, patient access, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance. BayCare Health System will develop a solid organ tranplant program at Tampa-based St. Joseph's Hospital in partnership with Chicago-based Northwestern Medicine, expecting to begin performing kidney transplants in 2027.
