About The Position

This role is responsible for overseeing inpatient psychiatry services at Utah Valley Hospital. The Medical Director will contribute to strategic planning, ensure 24/7 coverage, and support the implementation of behavioral health strategic plans and initiatives within the region. This position involves working with teams to identify and promote education and process improvement opportunities, participating in peer/case reviews, and overseeing physician coverage and documentation. The Medical Director will also serve as the chain of command for patient or staff concerns in the Behavioral Health Unit and B11 overflow. Regular attendance at various clinical program and division meetings is required, along with an annual review of patient care delivered in the inpatient units, including analysis of admissions, readmissions, length of stay, cost, treatment plan quality, and family involvement.

Requirements

  • MD or DO with ABMS or equivalent AOA Board Certification in a relevant specialty.

  • Minimum three years of clinical experience in relevant specialty and experience in leading successful quality improvement projects within the clinical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Work with scheduler to ensure 24/7 coverage of inpatient unit by psychiatry (via on-call schedule)
  • Contribute to the strategic plan for annual updates including 5- and 10-year outlook for services.
  • Assist with implementation of BH strategic plan and initiatives within the region.
  • Support awareness and compliance to Intermountain protocols, guidelines and clinical program initiatives throughout the region.
  • Work with team to identify and promote education and process improvement opportunities in the region.
  • Participate in peer/case review events related to care and/or service delivered in the inpatient unit for individuals or teams.
  • Oversee concerns related physician coverage and timely documentation in the medical record for inpatient and BH overflow services (BH providers only).
  • Chain of command for patient or staff concerns in the Behavioral Health Unit and B11 overflow (BH providers only).
  • Attend Behavioral Health Medical Director clinical program meetings monthly.
  • Attend Behavioral Health Guidance Council clinical program meetings monthly.
  • Attend DRMC psychiatry division meetings to provide updates and obtain feedback for clinical program initiatives.
  • At least annual review of patient care delivered in the Inpatient Units to include but not limited to: Analysis and trends of admissions and readmissions, LOS, and cost to the Behavioral Health Unit and overflow areas. Treatment plan quality and team involvement for patients admitted to the inpatient unit, Family involvement of care and treatment where appropriate through various communication methods including written, phone and in-person meetings
