About The Position

Adult Inpatient Psychiatrist needed for Brook Lane Hospital in Hagerstown, MD. This role involves managing a caseload of approximately 15 patients on a 27-bed Adult Inpatient Unit. The position offers a 7 on / 7 off schedule with 10-hour days and one night of call per week. The psychiatrist will work alongside a multidisciplinary team and have teaching opportunities with residents and students. The unit manages complex cases including suicidality, acute psychosis, mania, depression with suicidal ideation, schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, and substance-induced psychiatric conditions, with a significant prevalence of dual diagnosis.

Requirements

MD or DO degree.
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Maryland.
Experience managing adult inpatient psychiatric patients.
Experience with common diagnoses such as suicidality, acute psychosis, mania, depression with suicidal ideation, schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, and substance-induced psychiatric conditions.
Ability to work a 7 on / 7 off schedule with one night of call per week and one in six weekends.
Proficiency in non-violent de-escalation protocols.
Familiarity with duress panic buttons and security protocols.

Nice To Haves

Experience with dual diagnosis patients (~55% of admissions).
Experience in a teaching hospital environment.
Familiarity with Meritus Health and Brook Lane's behavioral health network.
Interest in academic collaboration with the upcoming Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine.

Responsibilities

Manage a caseload of approximately 15 patients on a 27-bed Adult Inpatient Unit.
Provide psychiatric evaluation and evidence-based treatment protocols.
Work collaboratively with a comprehensive multidisciplinary behavioral health team.
Participate in teaching opportunities with psychiatry residents, medical students, NP and PA programs.
Manage complex cases including treatment-resistant depression, severe mania, psychosis, dual diagnosis, and medical comorbidities.
Provide daytime on-call coverage for ED referral screenings and urgent inpatient needs.
