About The Position

The Medical Director, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry is a dual-role physician leader who delivers high-quality clinical care at Compass's Northbrook location while providing psychiatric excellence, clinical strategy, and team development across the Illinois U18 system. This role ensures that our youngest and most vulnerable patients receive evidence-based, developmentally appropriate care, that the providers who serve them are mentored and supported, and that Compass is recognized as the leading destination for child and adolescent psychiatric care in the communities we serve.

Requirements

  • MD or DO with BE or BC in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Valid Illinois physician license and completion of an AMA-approved psychiatry residency.
  • 6+ years post-residency or fellowship experience.
  • Skilled in psychopharmacology and the evaluation and treatment of mental illness.
  • Experience with CBT, DBT, and ACT therapy modalities.
  • Excellent communication and executive functioning skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior medical or executive management experience strongly preferred (e.g., Chief Resident/Fellow, faculty role, medical society leadership, or group practice management).

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership and strategic direction for U18 services in partnership with the IL Regional Medical Director and site leadership.
  • Mentor and coach U18 psychiatry providers at Northbrook through regular supervision, case consultation, and skills-based feedback.
  • Serve as a clinical consultation resource for U18 providers across the broader Illinois footprint.
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, and clinical orientation of new U18 providers with site leadership and talent acquisition.
  • Champion admission criteria, clinical standards, and key initiative performance across U18 programs.
  • Partner with site leadership on provider productivity monitoring and support, capacity and cross coverage management, action plans, complex case consultation, grievances, coverage, and site-specific challenges.
  • Partner with the VP of CPG on psychiatry budget oversight for assigned sites.
  • Liaise with local and state agencies (DCFS, Department of Public Health, law enforcement), hospital systems, laboratories, and Risk Management.
  • Liaise with local hospital systems and laboratories.
  • Liaise with Risk Management.
  • Serve as Compass's clinical voice for child and adolescent programs, building referral pathways and brand visibility.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with outpatient providers across Chicagoland.
  • Represent Compass at community events, continuing education, and professional association meetings (e.g., AACAP/ICCAP).
  • Partner with marketing and business development to translate community relationships into measurable referral growth.
  • Serve as a visible advocate for child and adolescent mental health, reducing stigma and increasing awareness of PHP and IOP treatment options.
  • Provide psychiatric care to children and adolescents enrolled in PHP and IOP at Northbrook.
  • Meet or exceed established RVU, encounter, and treatment-day benchmarks.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and treatment planning consistent with current evidence-based practice.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary clinical teams and document all patient contact in the clinical record.
  • Participate in Utilization Review, Quality Assurance, and professional development activities.
