Medical Childcare Assistant (Full-Time)
About The Position
Join Child Serve as a Medical Childcare Assistant, supporting the health, growth, and skill development of children and young adults. Provide care and assist with treatment services outlined in each child’s individualized care plan, working with an interdisciplinary team of nurses and therapists to promote development and skill retention. Child Serve’s Medical Childcare program provides specialized weekday care for children and teens with significant medical needs and developmental delays. Its integrated model combines nursing, education, and therapy, with specially trained caregivers working alongside nurses and physical, occupational, and speech therapists to deliver individualized treatment plans throughout the day. The program aims to help children build self-confidence, social competence, and life skills in a safe, supportive environment. The position is based at 1750 48th Street in Des Moines, Iowa, and is 40 hours per week within program operating hours of 7:30 AM to 6 PM.
Requirements
- Successfully complete Iowa DCI child and adult abuse and criminal background checks and the child abuse affidavit before hire and every two years thereafter.
- Pass the National FBI criminal record check.
- Read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Nice To Haves
- A two-year degree in human services or education; candidates actively pursuing an associate’s or bachelor’s degree will also be considered.
- Therapy-related majors are encouraged to apply.
- Experience working with children with disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Support children and young adults in developing and maintaining skills that promote greater independence.
- Provide care and treatment according to individualized care plans, including nursing, therapy, and behavior support within scope of practice.
- Create a safe, therapeutic, and engaging environment that encourages growth and well-being.
- Maintain accurate documentation and communicate effectively with nurses, therapists, families, schools, and team members to ensure continuity of care.
- Follow established procedures and perform additional duties as assigned to support program goals.
