About The Position

The Medical Billing Specialist manages the billing and reimbursement cycle for sleep testing services. The role ensures accurate and timely claim submission, follows up with insurance companies, resolves billing discrepancies, and supports revenue maximization while maintaining compliance with payer requirements. This is an in-office position in Maryland, scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with some flexibility in start and end times.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of experience in medical billing; experience in sleep medicine and diagnostics is preferred.
• Knowledge of Medicare and commercial insurance billing.
• Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes and insurance claim processes.
• Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and billing software.
• Strong understanding of payer requirements, including Medicare and commercial insurers.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with patients, payers, and internal teams.

Nice To Haves

• Associate’s degree or certification in medical billing/coding.
• Home Sleep Testing (HST) or Durable Medical Equipment (DME) experience.

Responsibilities

• Review and submit medical claims accurately and on time.
• Verify billing information for accuracy before claim submission.
• Maintain daily productivity and quality standards.
• Review and resolve claim rejections and billing discrepancies.
• Post payments, adjustments, and denials accurately in the billing system.
• Follow up on unpaid or denied claims and work with insurance representatives to resolve issues.
• Maintain knowledge of payer rules and guidelines specific to sleep testing and, when applicable, durable medical equipment (DME).
• Assist with appeals and provide documentation to support claim reconsideration.
• Generate and analyze billing and accounts receivable reports to identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, payer policies, and company procedures.
• Assist with additional billing projects and departmental assignments as needed.
