About The Position

The instructor is responsible for teaching assigned courses as scheduled, student advising and support, participating in outreach and attendance initiatives, and completion of professional development.

Requirements

  • Documented expertise in academic area as demonstrated by data sheets, diplomas, transcripts, certifications, resume.
  • Expertise in interpersonal and oral presentation/written communication skills.
  • Minimum of 3 years of significant program related/industry experience for Technical Instructor, or 4 years if teaching in an Academic Associate Degree Program at an ACCSC approved campus.
  • Appropriate program licensure, as well as relevant certifications, work experience and Degree as per accreditation and state licensing procedures. Specific requirements may vary depending upon state and accrediting commission regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Depending on the program taught, a certificate, diploma or degree at least one degree higher than conferred for the program taught is preferred.
  • A general education instructor must have a master’s degree and 15-18 semester credits in the subject taught.
  • Post secondary teaching experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Team player who demonstrates initiative, dependability and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches courses assigned by the Program Lead, Program Director, and/or Dean/Director of Education.
  • Facilitates learning utilizing and following approved curricula creating an environment in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings that facilitates student learning and the achievement of desired learning outcomes.
  • Utilizes a variety of supplementary resources (i.e. instructional technology, guest speakers, field trips, current articles and literature, discipline specific equipment, etc.).
  • Maintains laboratory and classroom organization and cleanliness.
  • Monitors classroom and student safety and immediately report safety concerns to appropriate manager.
  • Provides assistance for the planning, development, and maintenance of program curriculum.
  • Works with the Program Director/Dean/Director of Education to resolve student concerns.
  • Provides each student course syllabi on the first day of class.
  • Grades tests, projects, and other assignments in a required timeframe and updated gradebook in Canvas weekly and finalizes gradebooks in Canvas by the last day of a term so grades are ready to push in CampusVue.
  • Records and maintains accurate student attendance through Portico if utilized at campus. If not using Portico, enters attendance for assigned courses directly after each scheduled class time.
  • Actively supports student success initiatives through early alert reporting, academic advising, timely communication, attendance monitoring, and intervention activities.
  • Participates in student activities such as serving as club advisors, if asked.
  • Completes midterm evaluations for each student halfway through the term.
  • Reports need for supplies and computer equipment to Program Lead or Program Director.
  • Understands, adheres to, and supports all contents of the school catalog, faculty handbook, and all policies and procedures.
  • Provides feedback on curriculum, textbooks, and other instructional materials.
  • Performs end-of-the-term procedures by preparing the classroom for next term.
  • Provides annual (yearly) documentation of continuing professional growth related to the classroom and related to the field in which the faculty member teaches.
  • Attends campus meetings, in-service workshops and faculty meetings and incorporate learned concepts into classroom instruction.
  • Participates in Advisory Board activities coordinated through Career Services, the Dean/Director of Education, and the Program Lead or Program Director.
  • Attends graduation and orientation ceremonies.
  • In case of emergency, provides a qualified, prepared substitute who must be approved by your Program Director prior to class. Where coverage exists under Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) or the employee seeks a leave of absence or modified work schedule or other reasonable accommodation under the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) or applicable state laws, or where the employee's absence is otherwise covered under state workers' compensation laws, employees are not required to find a substitute to cover such qualifying absences.
  • Performs such other duties as may be specified by the Program Lead, Program Director, Dean/Director of Education, or the Campus President.
