About The Position

This role involves a combination of clinical and clerical duties within a medical office setting. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for patient intake, assisting with procedures, maintaining medical supplies and equipment, and managing patient records. Additionally, the role includes patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, payment collection, and handling patient communications. The position requires adherence to safety protocols, including OSHA guidelines and sterile techniques, and may involve travel to other company offices. The Medical Assistant will work closely with physicians and practice management to ensure efficient and high-quality patient care.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant program preferred.
  • At least one year of experience preferred in performing front and back office activities in a medical environment.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Moderate medical knowledge of front and back office procedures and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of equipment, supplies, and instruments used in a medical office.
  • Knowledge of routine clinical laboratory methods.
  • Knowledge of universal blood and body fluid precautions.
  • Knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of established protocol for storing poisons, narcotics, acids, caustics, and flammable items.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, escort them to exam rooms, and take vital signs.
  • Transcribe vital signs and other patient information accurately into the patient's chart.
  • Ensure completion of patient intake forms, including health questionnaires and medication reconciliation.
  • Assist with office procedures within the scope of practice, such as staple removal, wound dressing, and administering injections.
  • Provide patient instructions and education as needed.
  • Obtain, review, and scan signed consent forms.
  • Set up procedure trays and maintain a sterile field.
  • Notify physicians when patients are ready for examination.
  • Maintain and restock clinical supplies and inventory logs for medications.
  • Perform monthly checks on medication expiration dates, emergency kits, and other medical equipment.
  • Ensure rooms and instruments are cleaned and sanitized according to policy.
  • Manage order tracking to ensure patient testing is completed.
  • Adhere to OSHA guidelines and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Prepare patient charts for upcoming appointments, including checking and obtaining results.
  • Ensure quality measures are met and charges are dropped accurately daily.
  • Travel to other IRMC Physician Group offices when needed.
  • Greet and register patients and visitors.
  • Process patient registration forms and collect/update personal and financial information.
  • Verify insurance eligibility for all patients.
  • Collect patient payments and provide receipts.
  • Retrieve and manage messages from answering services and voicemails.
  • Answer and direct telephone calls.
  • Schedule patient appointments according to provider protocol.
  • Maintain logs for copays, petty cash, and receipts.
  • Forward medical record requests to the Health Information Management Department.
  • Monitor the patient reminder system for cancellations, reschedules, and no-shows.
  • Follow HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Security rules.
  • Accept and sign for mail and deliveries.
  • Practice sterile techniques and universal precautions when accepting specimens.
  • Provide clerical supply needs to lead or manager.
  • Maintain an orderly and clean front desk area and waiting room.
  • Retrieve faxes from the fax machine.
  • Obtain prior authorizations as required by insurance policies.
  • Perform other clerical tasks as requested.
