About The Position

Boone Memorial Health is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to join our outpatient clinic team. The Medical Assistant (“MA”) is responsible for sustaining an effective support structure by managing daily clinic activities and assisting in the examination and treatment of patients including all medical emergencies under direction of medical provider in an outpatient clinical setting of Boone Memorial Health, Inc. (“BMH”). The MA will perform routine technical duties and assist with other related activities involved in providing patient care in compliance with hospital standards, as well as federal, state, and local government regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification
  • BLS Certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire)
  • One year of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Welcome and assist patients with professionalism and compassion.
  • Obtain and document vital signs and medical histories.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Assist providers during examinations and minor office procedures.
  • Perform blood draws and collect laboratory specimens.
  • Conduct waived laboratory testing.
  • Perform EKGs.
  • Administer medications and immunizations (including IM, ID, and SQ injections) as directed by a licensed provider.
  • Apply sterile dressings and provide basic patient treatments.
  • Monitor and follow up on test results.
  • Recognize medical emergencies and provide First Aid when necessary.
  • Process prescription refill requests.
  • Maintain accurate electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Register patients and update medical records.
  • Schedule appointments and medical procedures.
  • Order laboratory tests.
  • Complete insurance forms and assist with billing.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Manage clinic inventory and medical supplies.
  • Communicate with insurance companies.
  • Follow up with patients regarding visits and test results.
  • Assist with additional office responsibilities as needed.
