About The Position

Philadelphia Women’s Center is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to provide direct-service abortion care and related services. The Center has delivered abortion and reproductive healthcare since 1972 and also assists with adoption services and prenatal care. Team members advocate for and care for patients seeking legal, safe, and compassionate services in a fast-paced medical environment. The role includes supporting patients before, during, and after procedures, providing fact-based education and supportive counseling, and connecting patients with community resources and referrals. The Center welcomes committed candidates with a strong work ethic, excellent patient-care skills, a sense of humor, and an interest in working with a diverse patient population as part of a team. Bilingual English/Spanish candidates are sought, though all languages are welcome.

Requirements

Proof of a high school diploma or GED, as required in Pennsylvania.
Strong communication skills.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
Ability to work with a diverse patient population, multitask, and work in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

Bilingual English/Spanish; other languages are welcome.
Experience with one or more of the listed clinical responsibilities.
Electronic health record (EHR) experience.

Responsibilities

Take pre-procedure vital signs and perform basic lab work, or assist with setup, procedures, and patient transportation.
Assist in the recovery room, including taking vital signs.
Respond to patient needs by providing fact-based education, supportive counseling, and community resources.
Advocate for patients, their partners, and families, and provide referrals when necessary.
Run basic lab tests for iron level and Rh.
Interpret for non-English-speaking patients and their loved ones throughout their experience when able to speak another language.
