About The Position

Scripps Health is hiring a Medical Assistant for its Orthopedic Surgery practice at Scripps Clinic Carmel Valley. This benefited, full-time position works 8-hour weekday day shifts, with start times typically between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.; weekends are not required. The clinic averages 30 patients per day. The role supports the physician’s practice and patient care, with opportunities for learning and career growth. Medical Assistant new graduates are welcome to apply.

Requirements

Completion of a formal Medical Assistant program, Medical Assistant certification, or at least two years of experience as a military corpsman.
BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association (AHA).

Nice To Haves

One year of experience as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient setting.
Previous experience in Orthopedics.

Responsibilities

Room patients, take vital signs, and assist with procedures.
Assist with clinic preparation and provider-specific protocols.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment.
Organize and perform patient care services that support the physician’s practice.
Relay instructions from the physician to patients or authorized persons.
Collect patient data in person and by phone.
Document patient concerns, messages, and care provided in the electronic medical record for the physician’s review.
Administer medications specifically directed by the physician.
Schedule appointments and procedures.
Take complete and accurate messages and route them to the appropriate area for direction.
Enter orders and referrals and obtain pre-certifications.
Set up cases in EPIC and perform basic registration and demographic updates.
