About The Position

The Medical Assistant supports clinicians and nursing staff in providing medical care and implementing and evaluating direct patient care. The role uses specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide an excellent patient experience in a vascular surgery practice. The position works directly with patients and families after check-in and is under the direct supervision of providers. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at 1940 N Alma School Rd, Chandler, Arizona.

The position requires completion of an approved medical assistant training program and active medical assistant certification, as well as BLS certification upon hire. Uncertified applicants who have completed an accredited MA program and hold an MA diploma may be considered under the introductory job description; they must become nationally certified within 12 months of starting employment. Banner provides certification study materials and pays the certification cost. A passing certification score results in a pay increase. A $2,000 sign-on bonus is offered to certified, experienced medical assistants; further details are discussed with the recruiter.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent working knowledge.
• Completion of a Banner-approved medical assistant training program that meets state-defined regulations.
• Active medical assistant certification as an RMA from AMT, CMA from AAMA, CCMA from NHA, or NCMA from NCCT.
• BLS certification required upon hire; the posting specifies an in-person, Banner-approved BLS Provider credential.
• Strong computer skills, including ability to work with medical software.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple changing priorities effectively and in an organized fashion.
• For employees in the specified Banner behavioral-health settings serving children: an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at hire, maintained for the duration of employment, and a signed Arizona Criminal History Affidavit upon hire.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with office medical procedures and treatments.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for examinations and treatment by taking and recording vital signs, symptoms, other measurements, chief complaints, and pain scores as appropriate; report signs of changes in patient condition to the clinician.
• Assist providers with examinations and minor in-office procedures, including blood pressure, respiration and heart rate/pulse, temperature, phlebotomy, ear irrigation, and EKGs; chaperone as needed and use universal precautions and personal protective equipment.
• Prioritize patient flow through the clinical process.
• Coordinate patient care, including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, and scheduling for clinic, hospital, and ancillary treatments and tests; communicate test results to patients and support clinicians in providing care.
• Provide clerical support for patient notifications and documentation, including maintaining complete medical records and providing accurate, timely billing information for patient encounters.
• Maintain a clean and functional environment by cleaning and disinfecting equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas; sterilize equipment and instruments according to procedures, manufacturer recommendations, and OSHA guidelines; perform basic equipment maintenance and coordinate repairs.
• Order supplies as directed and stock patient care areas; manage medication-related tasks, including expired medications or equipment and recalls.
• Maintain effective communication with internal and external customers and exemplify service orientation and teamwork.
• Complete required onboarding and orientation activities, including simulation training as needed or directed.
• Prioritize data from multiple sources to support responses to changes in the health status of patients and families; interact with staff, physicians, patients, families, external contacts, and physician offices to provide, request, or clarify patient-care information.
