About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) works within the administration’s predefined scope-of-practice guidelines for the state where they practice. In an ambulatory care setting, the MA collects subjective and objective health-status data from patients or caregivers and communicates it to health care providers. The MA contributes data to licensed health care professionals and follows through on patients’ plans of care under provider direction. They communicate providers’ written care instructions to patients or caregivers using specifically defined information. The role supports patients across the lifespan and throughout preventive care, health maintenance, treatment, and follow-up as they move between care settings. The MA performs duties under the direct supervision of a person licensed to practice medicine. Specialized clinical duties include obtaining vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, observing and reporting signs or symptoms, and performing point-of-care testing.
