About The Position

UChicago Medicine is hiring a Medical Assistant for its Pulmonary Medicine Clinic at the Hyde Park clinic. This is a full-time, 100% onsite position for someone based in the greater Chicagoland area. The Medical Assistant works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Advanced Practice Nurse, or Physician and assists with clinical and administrative tasks, including administering vaccines, conducting EKGs, recording vital signs, maintaining accurate patient records, and supporting the healthcare team in enhancing patient care. The position generally involves approximately 40 hours per week, with day hours from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Scheduled weekdays rotate; weekend work is not anticipated.

Requirements

• Completed high school diploma or equivalent from an accredited body.
• Current certificate of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.
• Phlebotomy experience.
• Experience working in a community health setting.
• Completion of a certified or registered medical assistant program recognized by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Graduation from a certified Medical Assistant program (CMA credential).

Nice To Haves

• Considerable verbal communication, prioritization, and work-organization skills, including the ability to maintain an organized, alphabetized filing system.
• General working knowledge of PCs, Excel, Microsoft Word for Windows, OASIS, and EPIC.
• Computerized appointment scheduling experience.
• Ability to handle stress in a fast-paced environment.
• Skill in handling sensitive public contacts with discretion, tact, and courtesy when dealing with patients, coworkers, and physicians.
• Physical ability to perform stocking, lifting, and transporting supplies and instruments.

Responsibilities

• Know and practice the University of Chicago Medical Center’s Pride Values and Patient Centered Care Definition and Principles.
• Perform assigned direct patient-care duties within the scope of Nursing policies and procedures and as directed by a registered nurse or physician.
• Implement and document patient and family education as delegated by the RN or physician.
• Obtain and record vital signs.
• Perform patient-population-specific tests, including pregnancy tests, urinalysis, and hemocults.
• Document all aspects of patient care according to hospital policies and procedures.
• Perform phlebotomy services.
• Assist with specimen collection, labeling, and logging in compliance with hospital standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
